dc.description.abstractThe digital age has ushered in significant changes in the landscape of child development, with digital media becoming an integral part of the lives of children from infancy through adolescence. This manuscript provides a comprehensive review of the multifaceted impacts of various forms of digital media, including television, video games, social media, and educational software, on children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development. It explores how digital media can both enhance learning through interactive educational tools and pose risks such as diminished attention spans and potential social isolation. The role of parental mediation is highlighted as a crucial factor in moderating digital media’s effects, emphasizing strategies such as co-viewing, setting usage limits, and guiding online interactions. Additionally, the manuscript delves into the implications of emerging technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), discussing their potential to offer immersive learning experiences and their unique challenges. By integrating psychological theories such as Cognitive Load Theory, Social Learning Theory, and Attachment Theory, this review deepens the understanding of how digital media influences child development and provides insights aimed at helping parents, educators, and policymakers develop effective strategies to harness the potential of digital media while safeguarding healthy child development.
