This Induction heating technology is very popular in home appliances because of the user safety, efficient heating, easy cleaning and fast heating reasons. Detection of suitable receptacle or vessel is essential for domestic induction cooking applications due to user safety, over-current protection and efficient heating reasons. Especially in the single switch topology, it could be even more complicated to determine pan size and/or position compared to other topologies. In this paper three pan detection methods are presented and analyzed. First method is comparison of IGBT collector voltage or coil current with pre-defined values. Second one is comparison of single switch IGBT collector voltage VcE with DC Bus voltage Vric and the third one is evaluating anti-parallel diode current conduction time.
