Öğe DETERMINATION OF THE POTENTIALS OF SMALL HYDROPOWER IN THE EASTERN BLACK SEA BASIN IN TURKEY(Parlar Scientific Publications (P S P), 2020) Yuksel, Ibrahim; Demirel, Ibrahim Hafil; Arman, HasanIt is known very well that hydropower energy is a type of the most important renewable energy in the world, and of course its positive impacts on the environment should not be ignored. There is a great hydroelectric potential in Turkey, especially in the Eastern Black Sea Region. Because the Eastern Black Sea Region has a good geographical location and climate for hydro energy in Turkey. In addition, the Eastern Black Sea Region is the rainiest region and there are a lot of rivers also. In this study, small hydropower potential in the Eastern Black Sea Region has been determined by using hydraulics and hydrological characteristics, water discharges and water drop (altitude) of the rivers.Öğe Water Resource Management for Renewable and Sustainable Hydro Energy in Turkey(Elsevier, 2020) Yuksel, IbrahimAlternative energy sources especially hydropower is very important in Turkey. Because hydropower industry is closely linked to both water management and renewable energy production and thus has an important role, in cooperation with the international community, and in striving for sustainable development in a world where billions of people still lack access to safe drinking water and adequate energy supplies. The south-eastern Anatolia Project (GAP) which covers one-tenth of Turkey’s total land area. GAP will have an installed capacity of 7460 MW. In the project, more than 329 hydropower plants is projected to add a total installed capacity of 19,699 MW, thus the total number of hydro plants is to bring to 483 and will be the total installed capacity of 34,592 MW by 2020. The project includes the construction of 22 dams and 19 hydroelectric power plants on the Euphrates and the Tigris rivers. It is planned that upon completion, over 1.8 million hectare of land will be irrigated and 27 billion kWh year?1 hydroelectric will be generated. © 2020 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved
