    RE-PRODUCTION OF DISCRIMINATORY AND OTHERIZING DISCOURSE FOR THE SYRIAN REFUGEE AT THE LOCAL MEDIA

    Texts used in the news and critics by the mass media are transformed into propagandas that legalize the social order of reasonable majority and into those discourses containing hatred against foreigners. Dominant class uses various ideological instruments in order to guarantee supervision of society. In the present time, most important of these instruments is media. Media has adopted an important role in directing and guiding the society because of its statements based on hatred in linguistic terms and its position supporting the strong class in the society. Mass media aiming to inform the public are shaping social forms of thinking according to the line of thinking adopted by the dominant ideology. In this manner, media supports the government in its attempts to guide and supervise the society. This means that media is not the real voice of society but rather than that, it is the voice of dominant government and its ideology. While media constructs the new contents and ideological and meaningful contexts of the news according to the definitions established by the stronger class and it re-shapes a certain method of social supervision causing alienation of minorities and opposing groups.In the scope of this paper, reasons of the prejudice against lifestyle, cultural values of the Syrian refugees, devastation caused by hate speech will be probed through examples. It is tried to examine the process of manipulating the public perception, analyzing different local newspapers which have published Turkey’s seven geographical regions. It will be tried to explain how the language, style and content used against refugees, in the local media create a social perception by passing through which constructive ideological filters. Media should be equal distance to every person. It is obviously showed on media as if the refugees are potential criminals by the people prejudice. The local media channels are found to be the typical instruments playing a strong role in re-production of sovereignty, racism and factionalizing of dominant elements in the society which is based on dominancy of the ruling class over the weak class. The lynching attempts against Syrian immigrants encountered in various cities prove how local media channels are influential in creating prejudices and discriminating approach against Syrians and its transformation into crimes of hatred.
